Thirty minutes from Raton is now extinct Capulin Volcano and its surrounding bluffs. From the top, you can view five different states.

Located within city limits is our own Raton spin on the Hollywood sign: Goat Hill, which overlooks a majestic skyline of mesas and peaks. You also have access to hike to the exposed Iridium Layer, which formed as a result of a meteorite impact between the Cretaceous and Paleogene period that caused the dinosaurs extinction.

CLIMAX CANYON

Located within city limits is Climax Canyon, a 3-mile easy to moderate hike for everyone to enjoy, including fido. The trail overlooks the city, as well as the surrounding valley.

The Raton Golf Course is a nine-hole course nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The surrounding scenery includes a gorgeous view of majestic New Mexico mesas and a variety of wildlife on and near the fairways.
